The Championship, arguably the most exciting league in Europe, as in anyone can beat anyone. It makes predictions that much harder, but its certainly entertaining. With the the prize for reaching the Premier League getting bigger each year, teams are pushing the boat out further trying to be top of the pile.
Middlesbrough and Derby County are the big spenders this year, bringing in players such as Stewart Downing and Tom Ince for big money on big wages. Both had differing endings to the season, albeit both ending in tears. Boro crashed out in playoff final, whilst Derby spectacularly imploded and missed out on the playoffs having been in the top 6 all season.
Brighton Hove Albion have signed a Real Madrid starlet this season and look to get off to a good start against transfer embargoed Nottingham Forest Live on Sky on Friday night to kick the Championship season off. Despite Forest’s restrictions, they still have a great squad and will edge this one. FOREST WIN.
Cardiff City are always strong at home, especially on the opening day of the season. Fulham have made some improvements, but we still feel this will be a defeat for them. CARDIFF WIN.
Burnley’s first game back in the Championship is a real tough test away to Leeds United. Burnley have lost top scorer Ings and Leeds were an improving side last time out. We can’t seperate these too. DRAW.
Birmingham City host Reading in their opening day clash, both should be doing better than last seasons performance. Its a close one to call this one, but we’ve just tipped the balance in the home teams favour. BIRMINGHAM WIN.
We’ve got 3 away wins in a row here, Blackburn Rovers entertain Wolves, Bolton host Derby & Ipswich go to Brentford. We feel that Wolves, Derby & Ipswich will have too much for there hosts. AWAY WINS.
QPR have a short trip across the capital to Charlton Athletic for their opener, QPR look likely to lose the tailsman, Charlie Austin in the run up to the fixture, we think another shock will follow. CHARLTON WIN
Hull City need to bounce back at the first time of asking, Steve Bruce will know that. Despite a few setbacks in losing players, they will be far to strong for Huddersfield Town. 3 points for Bruce will be just the start they need. HULL WIN.
Rotherham United facely newly promoted MK Dons, two evenly matched sides here, will be a good test for the newly promoted side and maybe set a parameter for how they will do for the season. DRAW.
Bristol City had a magnificent season last time out, winning the league at a canter and winning the football league trophy at Wembley. Steve Cotterill will be looking to keep that momentum going and a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, who have been splashing a bit of cash will prove difficult. Its a hurdle we expect them to clear. BRISTOL WIN.
The final game of the weekend see last years defeated Playoff finalists taking a trip to newly promoted Preston. With signings such as Stewart Downing and rumoured bids for Jordan Rhodes, Boro will be too much for Preston. MIDDLESBROUGH WIN
The first week of the Championship will no doubt throw up some surprises, it always does. It promises to be another cracking season though.
